Virtual Patient Simulation

Clinical Judgment Practice for the NCLEX

Students work through nine virtual patients the way the exam asks them to think.
What is Spark for NCLEX?
Spark for NCLEX is a focused collection of AI-powered patient simulations, built around the Client Needs categories assessed on the Next Generation NCLEX.

Assess → Decide → Act → Debrief

Students assess the patient, make a diagnosis, choose nursing actions, and see the rationale behind every choice.
Inside Every Case
Practice That Feels Like Nursing
01
An Unscripted Patient Encounter
Students interview a conversational AI patient with no fixed list of questions, then take vital signs, complete a physical exam, and review labs and imaging, the way they would at the bedside.
02
Feedback at the Point of Decision
Students see right away whether each intervention they choose is indicated. A structured debrief explains every choice, right or wrong, and a personal performance summary shows where to practice next.
03
Practice Beyond the Exam
Two optional, ungraded tasks connect exam prep to the job: an SBAR call to the provider and SOAP-note documentation.
Why It Works
The Science Behind the Practice
Simulation-based learning is a research-backed approach to building the clinical judgment the Next Generation NCLEX measures. Spark for NCLEX puts that approach into nine cases that follow the exam’s own structure.

What does the research say?
Studies of virtual simulation point the same way. Simulation can be mapped to every step of the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (Boev, 2023). In one study of 86 nursing students, every student met the 80% competency benchmark (Legge et al., 2024). In another, 96.9% of 97 students said debriefing after NGN-style case studies improved their clinical judgment (Camp-Spivey et al., 2024). The findings are early and mostly self-reported, but they’re why every case ends in a debrief.
Measures Clinical Judgment
Each case works through diagnostics, nursing actions, and complications, the same decisions the exam tests.
Closes the Theory-Practice Gap
Realistic, evolving patient cases let students apply classroom knowledge to real clinical dynamics in a safe, repeatable environment, as many times as it takes.
Builds Prioritization Under Pressure
Students triage urgent findings against routine ones and document their reasoning the way the exam, and the bedside, expects.
Makes Case Studies Familiar
Students meet the NGN case-study format on a patient first, so the exam’s most-feared items aren’t their first encounter with it.

What's Included
The Spark for NCLEX Equation

One virtual patient for each Client Needs category on the NCLEX test plan, plus a capstone case that brings all eight together in a single high-acuity scenario. Think of it as eight unit tests and one final exam.

A Fit for Pre-Licensure Nursing Programs
Most students get little hands-on NCLEX prep before they graduate. Spark for NCLEX gives them that practice while they’re still in your program, alongside the NCLEX review you already offer.

Ready on Day One

All nine cases are complete. Each student receives personal access by email, with no LMS setup and nothing for faculty to configure.

Theirs for Life

Access doesn’t end at graduation, so students who delay or retake the exam can still use it.

Any Cohort Size

Hand out access as students come through, whether that’s 20 this term or 60 next.

Runs Anywhere

Any laptop or tablet, no lab or headset required, and Meta Quest–compatible for students who already have one.
FAQs
Pre-licensure nursing students preparing for the Next Generation NCLEX. The cases are designed for students in their final semesters, but because access never expires, students can begin whenever they’re ready.
A question bank tests what students know. Spark for NCLEX asks them to use it: students care for a virtual patient, make decisions as the case unfolds, and receive rationale for every choice, including the ones they got wrong.
No. Spark for NCLEX adds hands-on clinical judgment practice alongside the NCLEX review you already offer.
Not at this time, by design. Spark for NCLEX is a student resource: a private space to practice, make mistakes, and learn from the rationale behind every decision without worrying about a grade.
Your program provides a list of student email addresses, and each student receives personal access by email. There’s no software to install, no LMS integration, and nothing for faculty to configure.
Any laptop or tablet with a current web browser. No simulation lab or VR headset is required, though the cases also run on Meta Quest for students who have one.
